Introducing GhostLight’s Online

Youth Academy

September 29, 2020 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NATION WIDE; CANADA: Complimenting our online Professional Training Series, GhostLight’s Youth Programming offers teens the opportunity to train and have fun with some of Canada’s premiere theatre artists. This high quality programming is designed for teens seeking to hone their performing arts skills in theatre and find mentorship from professional actors and youth educators in multiple theatre disciplines.

GhostLight Youth Academy

Join us this Fall for a once a week deep dive into all things acting. Each Tuesday between November 3rd to December 8th 2020, at 5PM to 7PM (EST), participants will meet for a two hour session online. Using text selected in class, teachers Izzi Nagel and Jaimie Henderson will focus on practical training followed by rehearsal. The first hour will consist of a weekly topic that builds skill and strives to build up our young artists and provide them with the tools of a successful actor. The second hour will be a group based rehearsal which will culminate in a professional live stream performance for family and friends at the end of the six weeks. The show will be chosen to ensure that all students get to explore complex characters and get equal stagetime in the performance.

My daughter attended the virtual theatre camp... She absolutely loved it and looked forward to it everyday.

Thank you for providing this opportunity during these uncertain times. It's lovely to see Drama and Theatre thriving!

Stefanie, mother of summer camp participant

About The Youth Academy Team

Izzi Nagel is a Toronto-based actor and writer who recently graduated from the Ryerson School of Performance just this year. At Ryerson, Izzi played such roles as Gertrude in Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' and Raina in G. B. Shaw's 'Arms and the Man' (both directed by Peter Pasyk). Izzi made her professional debut last summer in 'Anne' with the Guild Festival Theatre, and has acted in various other theatres (and parks!) around Toronto as well. She's thrilled to be working with GhostLight and support the vital work they are doing for our Canadian theatre community!

Jaimie Henderson is a multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto. As a graduate of UofT drama, Jaimie has spent her early professional career working in arts education, and choreographing for multiple Youth Theatre Programs. She has spent four summers at the Stratford Festival as the Head of Staff overseeing their summer Youth programs, and this fall just completed choreographing her sixth show for the youth company Innovative Arts. As an actor Jaimie most recently toured the award-winning production Mixed Messages with Mixed Company Theatre. Other select credits include: Anne & Gilbert (Josie Pye), Grease (Patty Simcox), Legally Blonde (Serena), The Seagull (Nina), and Cymbeline (Imogen.)

“Graham Abbey and Dylan Trowbridge, two of the country's finest actors and directors, have launched GhostLight.ca, a place for artists to come together and collaborate through mentorship, conversation and collective creation.” - NOW Magazine

Ghost lights have stood vigil over unoccupied theatres for years, protecting the stage in the darkness and illuminating the space for creative spirits to play in the void. Our mission is to sustain this vigil in the virtual world by providing a gathering place for teaching, mentorship and exploration. Founded by theatre artists Graham Abbey, Dylan Trowbridge, E.B. Smith, along with Adrianna Prosser, a professor of arts and culture management, and Stephen Barnard, a veteran of the business start-up community; ghostlight.ca is our virtual home base. We provide Canadian theatre artists the opportunity to stay active, inspired and engaged by connecting them with some of the nation’s most exciting artists and mentors. We offer online events, accessible training, as well as mentoring in the performing arts.
